Understanding Colleton County Releases
A Colleton County release ends one custody episode. It does not always mean the person returned to the community. The Colleton County Detention Center may release someone after bond is satisfied, a local sentence ends, or a court orders release. It may also transfer that person to the South Carolina Department of Corrections, another county, federal authorities, or immigration custody. The agency that receives the person then becomes the current source. A death, hospital move, escape, or data correction is not an ordinary community release and should not be described as one.
Released people usually drop out of a live jail roster because that roster is built to show present custody. Colleton's official portal is more useful than many live rosters because it also accepts an exact Release Date. A matching row proves that the portal recorded the end of that local custody episode on the selected date. It does not prove destination, the court result, or the precise time the jail completed processing. Those facts require the custody sheet, court docket, or receiving agency record.

Colleton County Release Types
The legal basis and the physical exit are separate facts. A bond order authorizes pretrial release, but staff must still check identity, paperwork, and every hold. A dismissal or time-served order may end the local case while another agency keeps custody. Probation and parole place a person in the community under different legal authority. One person may have several records from the same event. The jail record gives the physical-custody event. The court file explains bond, sentence, dismissal, or commitment. SCDC documents a state-prison admission or discharge. SCDPPPS documents supervision. Matching names alone is risky, so use the booking number, SID, SCDC number, date of birth, and event dates whenever they are available.
Colleton County Release Record Fields
The official Colleton inmate portal exposes Name, Arrest Date, Held For Agency, and Release Date filters. Its result layout includes a mugshot, name, race, sex, age, arrest date, held-for agency, release date, and hold reasons or charges. These fields identify a booking episode and show when the local portal says it ended. They do not provide release time, release method, releasing authority, transfer destination, property return, or sentence-completion certification.

An internal custody sheet may contain more. A focused request can ask for the booking number, actual release date and time, release or disposition code, releasing authority, transfer destination, and any existing property or money acknowledgment. Request only records that exist. The Sheriff's Office does not have to create a new explanation or infer why a field is missing.
Request Colleton County Release Records

Colleton says it has ten working days, excluding weekends and legal holidays, to decide whether records are available. Its posted schedule lists $25 per hour for search, retrieval, and redaction; $12 for a USB; $5 for an optical disc; and page-copy rates from $0.25 to $1 depending on size and color. Full payment comes before release, and a deposit up to 25 percent of the estimate may be required. Reports under fourteen days may be available for weekday inspection from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but Records should confirm whether that shortcut covers a release sheet.
Colleton Release Record Law
The South Carolina Freedom of Information Act generally opens agency records while preserving exemptions. It sets response periods and permits reasonable search, retrieval, redaction, and copy charges. The law does not make every jail field public. Juvenile, medical, security-sensitive, sealed, or otherwise protected material may be withheld or redacted. Section 30-4-40 also protects certain information about people confined in detention or correctional facilities.
Retention and public access are not the same. South Carolina's county retention schedule calls for jail logs and daily activity reports to be kept permanently, while some case and booking materials have other periods or event triggers. Under Section 17-1-40, a qualifying expungement can make arrest records, bench warrants, mugshots, and fingerprints subject to destruction, with limited sealed retention. Sealed data are not public without a court order. A release alone does not qualify every case for expungement, and a portal disappearance cannot establish that an order was entered.
When Colleton Bond Releases Start
Colleton County publishes two usual bond-hearing windows, 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. and 3:00 to 4:30 p.m., with rare hearings at other times. The schedule helps explain when a judge may authorize release. It is not a gate schedule. Payment, identity checks, paperwork, and unrelated holds can keep someone in custody after the hearing ends.

A bond decision is not proof of physical release. Confirm the jail's release entry and ask about other holds.
Find Released Colleton County Inmates
Begin with the custody episode, not a broad name search. The strongest county proof is an exact-date result in the official portal, backed by a Detention Center confirmation or custody sheet. If the person entered state prison, the correct source changes to SCDC. If the person entered supervision, use SCDPPPS. Court records provide the durable legal explanation, while VINE supplies status notices rather than the underlying order.
- Search Colleton's portal by name and likely Release Date. Save the displayed booking details and access time.
- Call the Detention Center when same-day status or destination matters. Ask whether the event was community release or transfer.
- For state prison, use the separate SCDC Released Inmate Search. Do not rely on the current-inmate tool after discharge.
- Check SCDPPPS for current or recent supervision and the Colleton Public Index for disposition.
- Use VINE for notification, BOP for federal custody, and ICE ODLS for immigration custody.

A released person often leaves the current roster. Absence is a lead, while a positive release record is evidence.
SCDC Search for Colleton Releases

It can show SCDC ID, SID, location, admission date, photograph, Projected Release Date, parole eligibility, and sentence details. This state result must not be confused with release from the Colleton County Detention Center. A transfer from Colleton to SCDC ends local custody while state incarceration continues.
Search Colleton County Release Dates
Colleton has no separate rolling 24-hour or 72-hour feed. The official Zuercher portal provides a single-calendar-date Release Date filter. To approximate today's releases, select today. A literal preceding 24-hour period may cross midnight, so search yesterday as well and disclose that the public result has no release time. A three-day view requires three separate calendar-date searches. Record each search date, access time, displayed total, and pagination.

The image confirms the available route, not a fixed daily list. The portal warns that information changes quickly and is updated periodically. It publishes neither an exact refresh cycle nor an archive duration. A just-completed release may lag, and older results should not be promised to remain searchable.
Match Colleton Release Court Records
Colleton Bond Court and Magistrate are at 40 Klein Street. Circuit Court and the Clerk are tied to the courthouse at 101 Hampton Street. This local split matters because the Colleton Public Index explains the case outcome, while the jail's Release Date records the custody event. Search by party or case identifier, then review charges, docket events, disposition, sentence, bond orders, and filed orders.
A favorable docket entry does not prove the time the jail opened the door. The jail still resolves identity, paperwork, and holds. Conversely, a Release Date does not show whether a charge was dismissed, resulted in a conviction, or moved to another court. Pairing the two records prevents both errors. Verify Colleton Post-Release Supervision
The SCDPPPS offender search accepts first name, last name, SID, county, and four-digit birth year in specified combinations. Its results represent the previous day, and people whose supervision ended may no longer appear. A positive match supports the displayed parole, probation, supervised reentry, or other status. No match does not prove that the person was never released or supervised.

Getting Home After Colleton Release
The county outside-agencies directory lists Lowcountry Rural Transit Authority at 843-757-5782. No official source confirms a stop at the Detention Center or a jail release-transport program. Call the transit authority and the jail before making plans. Do not assume there is a family waiting area, a rideshare pickup point, or a route timed to bond processing.
Release time is not published in the portal, so transportation should remain flexible. The person arranging a ride can ask the jail whether release processing is complete and where pickup is permitted. A court hearing window estimates when authorization might occur, not when the person will be ready to leave.
Federal and ICE Colleton Releases
SC VINE covers participating county detention, SCDC, and SCDPPPS records. It does not replace the federal locators. Search the BOP inmate locator for federal prisoners from 1982 forward by register number or identifying details. “Released” or “Not in BOP Custody” only means BOP no longer holds the person. Another agency or federal supervision may follow.
ICE explains that a detainer requests advance notice and up to 48 hours of custody so ICE can assume control. A Colleton Release Date may therefore mark transfer to ICE, not return to the community. Use Colleton's Active Detention Center
The Colleton County Detention Center at 22 Klein Street is the only verified operating custodial facility physically in the county for this project. County records also mention an “Old Jail Building,” but that property is used as government meeting space. It is not the active release office. Direct custody and release questions to the Detention Center, not the historic building.
The Sheriff’s Detention Center Division operates the jail. Its public number is 843-549-5742, and the division page lists lobby hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Releases may lead to the community, SCDC, another county, federal authorities, or ICE.
